So finally have some time to write… cracks knuckles….
As previously mentioned, I like to see what’s the news of the day and go to every sports site. Today everyone talked about Peyton to Broncos, Tebow’s next move, Miggy’s face meeting a baseball, and a Fuck that was really a Buck, you know, the Same Old Shit. Then came across one piece about Coach Knight not acknowledging Kentucky which apparently Dietch & Kentucky Blogs have taken offense to because of some bullshit claim “lack of impartiality”. Anyway, peep the “guerilla gotcha troll special”
…………
Q: Hi Mr. Knight, my name is Jason McIntyre and I write for The Big Lead. We write about sports and the media and I was calling to ask you about the NCAA tournament, specifically, Kentucky.
Knight: How did you get this number?
Q: Just a source. I’ve been in the media for a few years and … [cuts me off]
Knight (voice audibly raised): HOW DID YOU GET THIS NUMBER?
Q: Just a contact I …. [cuts me off]
Knight: I’m going to ask you one last time. Who gave you this number?
Q: Mr. Knight, I’m just calling to ask about Kentucky, and why you won’t mention the Wildcats by name on air. It seems … [cuts me off]
Knight: If you won’t tell me who gave you the number, I’ve got nothing to say to you. [Click]
………….
Ignore the fact of who was calling or got called. Let’s think about us. How often do we pick up phone when strange numbers calls(not at work/on our own time) and if we do pick up phone, do we give time of day to person who calls who isn’t supposed to be calling you? Rhetorical question.
Now, making news by becoming the news…. What part of the game is that? 100/100 people who might know something about coach probably could have guessed how this would end. By going through with the task it kinda somewhat sorta takes away from any legitimate reason behind the call. Nothing new would be offered to the sports masses. Coach Knight is a fucking asshole, point-blank-period and he is never going to change. Expecting anything other than him being an asshole is asinine. So i’m under the impression that in this instance there was only one reason for the call, to induce anger aka troll. In this case, trolling worked effectively in getting the trollee angry.
It is what it is… O well, I guess it’s different from the Same Old Shit, ya know, breaking who leaves ESPN and who joins CBS. Now the question remains, which ESPN‘er gave up Coach’s number…
To conclude, just a question, I know nothing about journalism or ever worked for a major newspaper but wouldn’t it have been nice if call had been recorded? You know, actual proof and hearing coach’s voice would have been excellent. Just saying…
So yea, that really bugged me today. Wonder what will bug me next time…
Till then, adios…
